Isle of Arran Distillery

Production began at our first distillery in beautiful Lochranza almost 30 years ago.  Many other locations were considered at the time, but the proximity to Loch na Davie provided us with a rather special source of fresh water for distilling.  We knew this would hold us in good stead in the years to come.  Our second distillery opened in the south of the island in 2019 at Lagg, where we make a very unique style of peated single malt. This geography is key to the character of our whisky. Here we make a spirit that reflects a range of regional influences, yet achieves a rare and unique personality all its own. Rather like the island itself.”

The area is home to the purest water in all of Scotland – every drop of Arran Single Malt starts its life as rainwater which pools at Loch na Davie in the beautiful hills behind the distillery.  The clear water cascades down the hillside, through six unassuming waterfalls, each one purifying the water further. The name of the burn, Easan Biorach, means ‘Sharp Waterfalls’ in Gaelic. The purity of our water means that we can create a clean, sweet dram which is entirely natural and unadulterated.  We never add caramel or strip flavour out using chill filtration.  We usually serve our whiskies at 46% ABV, which means that it stands up well to dilution and adding a little splash of water.

Arran enjoys a warm microclimate – the atmosphere of sea breezes and clear mountain air, together with the warm flow of the Gulf Stream is ideal for the speedy maturation of single malts. The island has a reputation for producing the highest quality whisky.

Arran Quarter Cask

The Arran Quarter Cask expression is a complex, rich and intensely fruity Single Malt, a cask strength delight and the perfect partner to the Sherry Cask Single Malt!

The Arran Single Malt selected for this cask strength expression was initially matured in first-fill ex-Bourbon barrels  before being transferred for secondary maturation into smaller Quarter casks also made of the finest American oak.  The process of transferring our whisky into the smaller 125 litre sized casks produces far greater contact between the whisky & oak and a faster, more intense maturation.

Arran Sherry Cask ‘The Bodega’

Sherry Cask ‘The Bodega’ is a stunning new addition to the core range of whiskies and is the perfect choice for someone who enjoys their Single Malt with plenty of body and complexity.

Matured in some of the finest casks available to the whisky industry, this cask strength Sherry matured Single Malt is both luxurious and elegant with layers of rich sweet spice and oak. Our Master Distiller has worked with producers in some of the most prestigious Sherry Bodegas in Jerez, Spain to select only the best quality casks to be filled with our precious spirit.
